Sarah Gruntmeir of Kingfisher will graduate with a bachelor’s degree in agricultural sciences at Cornell University’s 151st commencement ceremony, to be held May 26, in Ithaca, N.Y. Gruntmeir is among 3,400 undergraduate students graduating in the spring commencement event.

Spring semester honor rolls at Northwestern Oklahoma State University have been announced by the Office of the Vice President for Academic Affairs. Those on the President’s Honor Roll earned all A’s, or a 4.0 grade point average (GPA), in a minimum of 12 undergraduate or nine graduate hours.

Outgoing president, Marissa Choate, turned over the gavel to her successor, Jan Griffin, at a recent meeting of Hennessey Friends of the Library. Other officers for the 2019-2020 season are: P.J. Stewart, vice president; Ginger Cox, secretary; and Patsy Jackson, treasurer.

Memorial Day was first known as Decoration Day – a day when people gathered to decorate the graves of loved ones who had given their lives in service to their country. I have to admit; as a child I didn’t quite understand why people would want to decorate graves.
